Mat Voorter and Thomas Hauert Workshop: Challenge Your Dancing
December 1, 3, 5 M W F 10am-1pm (M W) 9am-11:30am (F)
Danspace Project - $100 full workshopSOLD OUT
Mat Voorter and Thomas Hauert have a long history of dancing together (in projects of David Zambrano, Gonnie Heggen, and in ZOO-Thomas Hauert). In this workshop they will share their approaches in dancing. Over the 10 years of working the group 'ZOO-Thomas Hauert' has developed a particular way of dealing with dance. One element in the work is the movement of a group as one body through the space, while the interconnections keep transforming and shape the space. Another element is the constant challenge of the body to move differently than it is used to in order to enrich our personal vocabulary. A third approach deals with bodies in touch interacting with changing tensions between them. Some of this work will be presented in the workshop. While Hauert will work based on the anatomy, Voorter will work as well with imagery.

What repercussions on the level of the political has the fad of performance and performativity in intellectual and academic circuits over the last 15 years had on dance practices and production? This workshop is a political gathering in the sense that it aims to re-claim the potentially political of dance and with that the formation/articulation of the history of dance to a community of practitioners. This is a necessary claim in order to liberate dance from repressive structural attributes, and open it for contemporary forms of expression. We serve coffee and tea with cookies. Hosted by Mårten Spångberg and the Program for Choreography, Univ. College of Dance Stockholm.
Vera Mantero’s Workshop: Irony and Empty Hands
December 8-12 M T W TH F 2:30-5:30pm
Eden’s Expressway - $150 full workshopSOLD OUT
Relaxation, the use of voice, writing, breathing and free association are some means to be used in this workshop in order to find the movements and actions going on inside us. We will explore some of them separately first in order to incorporate them later in longer and more complex improvisational processes. The idea of getting inside a particular state of consciousness will be very important. Awareness and use of space, and the exploration of objects and materials will not be forgotten. Irony and empty hands will take us further.
Ray Chung Workshop: Dyads, Triads and More: Contact Beyond Duets

Danspace Project - $150 full workshopUsing Contact Improvisation as a foundation, we will create ways to improvise dancing in duo, trio, and ensemble. We will survey CI essentials, with a focus on efficient use of technical skills, to develop a facility for, and availability to, changing physical states and levels of touch and weight. We will work with strategies for moving "out of the box" of the duet form, expanding our range of choices of how to include more than one other dancer while moving seamlessly into and out of contact. Come prepared for focused playfulness within committed practice.
(Intermediate/advanced: open to experienced contactors)
