MR Festival 2004: Improvisation is Hard

Curatorial Committe Festival Statement
Movement Research Festival 2004: Improvisation is Hard
is a celebration of the spirit of risk-taking and innovation that is so intrinsic to our city and community. It offers a convergence and exchange between artists and audiences who are curious about work that lives its process in performance, beyond the classroom and the studio. This two-week event is the result of the collaborative efforts of a group of local dance artists who were passionate about the future of Movement Research's annual Improvisation Festival (IF/NY). Together we decided to rename the festival: The Movement Research Festival, with the idea that each year a new collective of artist-curators would determine the emphasis and shape of the festival, reflecting the state of things in the moment, just like... improvising.
