Contact Improvisation
Bill Young
6:45-9:30pm W
Simone Forti Studio
Contact Improvisation is a partnering dance form. Skills such as rolling, releasing, giving and supporting weight, expanding range of spatial concentration, lifting, catching and falling help one move with and through gravity, share weight in motion and use momentum and flow in physical contact. These weekly classes, open to people of all levels of movement experience, are informed variously by the individual teaching artists.

The Athletics of Intimacy, Improvisations
Classes combine skills and practices of Contact Improvisation, applications of Body-Mind Centering® and tutoring of somatic improvisational approaches in solo, duet (strong emphasis on partnering) and ensemble dancing. I am interested in the very physical, the very sensorial and the very imaginative, and in discovering new challenges and risks within our movement.

Authentic Movement
In authentic movement, you move from an inner impulse with your eyes closed. Inner impulses can originate in different "channels": emotional, physical, kinesthetic, visual, sensual and intellectual. Not only will you learn more about yourself through authentic movement, it can be a starting point from where personal movement develops.

Danspace Project
Using anatomical principles of weight, momentum and energetic connection into space, we will explore movement that is fast, luxurious, quirky and complex. A more articulate physical state is achieved by neutralizing habitual muscular patterns and emphasizing the nuts and bolts of what is possible in movement. Dancers are encouraged to explore their own decision making process in interpreting, executing and ultimately transforming the movement material.
Doug Elkins
March 8-April 2 M,W,F 10am-12pm
Movement Research at Eden's Expressway
Emphasis in this class will be put on bringing seemingly incongruous materials together. Technique and warm-up exercises will be drawn from a variety of movement styles ranging from ballet and post-modern to street/club styles and martial arts. Phrases in the Elkins idiom will be introduced, emphasizing dynamic physicality and self-expression.

Perception
The most basic of actions can become the most complex, depending on what one is able to notice. This same paradox applies - in reverse - to material that can appear impossibly complex, indecipherable, or impenetrable. Classes will range from the minute to the gross, as intelligible and unintelligible structures - both verbal and physical - are provided as sources of entry for exploration. Classes utilize Cardona’s practice of improvisational forms, Klein Technique (with Barbara Mahler and Susan Klein), and his history with traditional/classical dance forms.

Flying-Low Intensive Workshop
This workshop developed by David Zambrano focuses mainly on the dancer's relationship with the floor (earth, ground). The workshop utilizes simple movement patterns that involve breathing, speed, and the releasing of energy through the body, in order to activate the relationship between center and joints. Moving in and out of the ground more efficiently by maintaining the state of being centered.
This workshop was funded, in part, by the National Endowment for the Arts as part of our 25th Anniversary Celebration Season.Yvonne Meier

Releasing I
Through specially designed images, we will enable ourselves to let go of hidden tensions and realign with the natural forces of gravity and counter balance. Through the releasing process, we will learn how to move with more freedom and economy. Spontaneous movement explorations will allow us to creatively integrate these changes in our bodies. The experience of seeing into our bodies will give us a wonderful tool for improvisational dance.
