The MR Internship Program hosts ongoing internships during the Fall and Spring seasons, as well as winter and summer internships geared toward college and university students and recent graduates. The MR Internship Program has a work-study structure — interns work with and are mentored by MR staff and, in exchange, receive access to MR classes and select workshops.

The Internship Program offers a range of internship positions for artists and arts workers ages 18 and up. Movement Research is equipped to work with students who are seeking credits through a college program or course. Read on for details on the positions, openings, and how to apply.

[In-Person] Programs & Events Internship

Open to All. Degree-Seeking Candidates Preferred:

The MR Internship Program has a work-study structure — interns work with and are mentored by MR staff and, in exchange, receive access to MR classes and select workshops.

The Programs & Events Interns work closely with the Programs and Events Manager and Associates to organize and implement Movement Research’s artist programs and events. The primary duty is to assist in the management and implementation of Movement Research’s MELT workshop series and concurrent events. This position works in-person.

Programs & Events Interns can expect a fairly consistent schedule in coordination with Movement Research’s MELT schedule. Summer MELT 2024 will take place from July 8- August 2, 2024, and Winter MELT 2025 will take place from January 13 – 31, 2025. The internship will be supplemented with office hours to assist Programs and Events staff in alignment with internship dates. 

When applying, please share with us your interest in MR workshops and faculty, as well as your anticipated weekly schedule for Summer 2024 and Winter 2025. The Programs & Events Internship also has the opportunity to support events such as GPS Chats, Studies Projects, and the Movement Research at the Judson Church performance series in a front of house capacity.

Candidates should have experience with Zoom, Google Suite and/or Microsoft Excel and Word, as well as strong organizational skills, punctuality, and attention to detail. As this is a public-facing role, excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential. Knowledge of Filemaker Pro or experience with databases is not required but helpful.

[Hybrid] Special Events & Fundraising Intern

Open to All. Degree-Seeking Candidates Preferred:

The MR Internship Program has a work-study structure — interns work with and are mentored by MR staff and, in exchange, receive access to MR classes and select workshops.

The Special Events and Fundraising Intern assists the Development Manager with tasks that vary by season (including, end-of-year giving, Capital Campaign, and Gala) and is responsible for entering donations into the database, assisting with program tracking, and taking minutes at various meetings. This position will also work closely with the Development Manager and Programs & Events Team in the planning of the annual Movement Research Fall Gala, assisting with volunteer outreach and coordination, organizing logistics relating to the performance, donation tracking, ticket sales and in-kind donation outreach. Ideal candidates should have some event coordination experience, a familiarity with Microsoft Excel and Word, excellent writing skills, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a small, busy office environment. Knowledge of Filemaker Pro, Mac Mail program, and Google Docs not required but helpful.

[Hybrid] Outreach & Engagement Mentee

Open to All. Degree-Seeking Candidates Preferred:

The MR Internship Program has a work-study structure — interns work with and are mentored by MR staff and, in exchange, receive access to MR classes and select workshops.

This hybrid internship position is a commitment for the Summer 2024 season; the minimum weekly commitment is between 25-30 hours per week for a 7 week span. The Outreach & Engagement Intern works with the Media and Communications team and other supporting departments to maintain Movement Research’s presence and activity on social media platforms and keep detailed accuracy/inventory of digital media. 

Tasks include:

  • creating SM content for diverse communication platforms, 
  • drafting copy for weekly and daily media posts, 
  • tracking statistics/audience engagement for reporting,
  • Engage with community on social media by viewing stories, responding to DMs, and addressing comments if necessary,

The ideal candidate is:

  • interested in storytelling, communications, digital media & technology, dance, and performing arts administration. 
  • willing to attend and document MR classes and events following a flexible schedule. 
  • curious about marketing & branding strategies, visual literacy, digital archives, and social/community engagement. 
  • uses Social Media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, and/or reads blogs and digital content. 
  • a good and concise writer.
  • This position will be a combination of in-person and remote work.
