Announcing the Movement Research Strategic Plan
On behalf of board, staff and artists, we are pleased to present Movement Research’s first-ever Strategic Plan, which covers three fiscal years from 2008 to 2010. In many ways, the planning process was fueled by Movement Research’s extraordinary artistic community and its long history of accomplishment, which reflect the social, political and aesthetic discourse in which contemporary artists have engaged over the past three decades.
The plan is available in PDF format as follows:
This Strategic Plan was written over the summer of 2006 by staff under the direction of past Executive Director Carla Peterson, with input from the board and other colleagues, and then finalized in FY08 under the new directorship of Executive Director Barbara Bryan. The following five goals were agreed upon:
- Evaluate and modify programs to increase their relevance and effectiveness to artists.
- Secure unified space for programs and administration.
- Increase board effectiveness, in order to meet current and future organizational challenges.
- Strengthen administration by improving capacity of technological systems and procedures, as well as the capacity and conditions for staff.
- Increase annual operating budget from $355,000 in FY07 to $500,000 by FY10, in accordance with the Mission and this Plan.
One thing has been reaffirmed by this process and reflected throughout this document: Movement Research’s artist-driven experimentation must continue. The Strategic Plan charts the course for that to happen – and now, at the beginning of the second fiscal year of the strategic plan, we as an organization are making steady progress in its implementation.
Respectfully,
Ishmael Houston-Jones, President, Board of Directors
Barbara Bryan, Executive Director
Carla Peterson, Board member and Past Executive Director
